CENTRAL VALLEY DEFEATS YREKA FOR DIV IV TITLE
The top seeded Central Valley High School boys basketball team beat No. 11 Yreka 67-52 Saturday to capture the Northern Section Division IV title at California State University, Chico.
Falcons head coach Kevin Strohmayer noted CV hasn't won a section crown since 1984. The Falcons (25-3) were tied with the Miners 32-32 at halftime, but pulled away in the third period and never looked back. C.V. will host the first round of state playoff action. Photo above by Katie Harrington

FALL RIVER AT BURNEY BOYS AND GIRLS VARSITY
The Fall River boys and girls varsity traveled a short distance Jan. 29 to clash with their cross-district rivals, the Burney Raiders with the Bulldogs taking both games, 63-46 for the boys and 41-40 for the girls.
The lady Bulldogs sport a 16-5 overall and 6-2 league record and the Raider girls are 6-10 overall and 2-6 in league. The Bulldog boys are 10-10 for the season and 4-4 in league play and the Raiders sport a 6-12 record and 1-6 league mark. Photo above by Craig Harrington

BURNEY AT FALL RIVER
In a come-from-behind victory, the Burney Raider varsity defeated their eastern district neighbors, the Fall River Bulldogs, 60-57, at the McArthur gymnasium.
Burney was behind virtually the entire game, tying it up for the first time, 40-40, with 6:32 left in the fourth period. They took the lead for the first time with just 57 seconds left in the game and held on to win the contest, which was the opening Shasta Cascade League game for both teams. LEHIGH CLASSIC DAY 1
The host Central Valley Falcons, behind the 21-point performance of Paolo Mancasola, defeated Alameda 63-51 at the 14th annual Lehigh Classic Basketball tournament at CVHS.
The win means the Falcons will face the Shasta Wolves Friday night at 6:30 p.m. as the Wolves defeated Redwood High School of Larkspur 57-51.

BURNEY VS. BIG VALLEY
Both varsity and junior varsity teams from Burney, Fall River, Big Valley and Portola competed at the 28th annual three-day Burney Jamboree tournament.
On Thursday, the lady Raiders defeated the Cardinals, 36-32. The Fall River lady Bulldogs were 3-0 to take the varsity girls title. The Portola Tigers finished the tourney with a record of 2-1, followed by the Raiders at 1-2 and the Big Valley Cardinals finished 0-3.
The Burney JV girls were 2-1 to win their second straight Jamboree.

FALL RIVER VS. TRINITY
Behind by five points at the half, 27-22, Fall River had a strong second-half showing in downing the Trinity Wolves, 57-54, at the 62nd annual Block F Tournament at the Bulldog gym.

CIF DIVISION IV BOYS BASKETBALL CHAMPIONS
The Central Valley Falcons are the 2008 Northern Section CIF Division IV boys basketball champions as they captured their first divisional title since 1991 and first section title since 1984 by defeating the Yreka Miners at California State University, Chico, 67-52.
Dylan Griffin finished with a game high 29 points and 14 rebounds for C.V. Paolo Mancasola added 12 points along with eight assists and four steals. Luke Cassedy added another 13 points and Billy Cochran 10. Photo above by Craig Harrington

BULLDOGS DEFEAT BEARS IN FINAL GAME OF REGULAR SEASON
Adam Burbaker scored 20 points for the Bulldogs and Taylor Sloat added another 15 on the way towards a Fall River win over the visiting Mt. Shasta Bears.
Fall River finishes the season with 6-6 SCL record and 12-12 overall.

Modoc High School of Alturas captured first place at the 34th annual Burney Rotary Invitational Wrestling Tournament garnering a total point score of 174 among the 18 teams competing Jan. 11 and 12 at Burney High School.
Second place was awarded to Central Valley High School of Shasta Lake, scoring 154 points. Trinity High School of Weaverville was third with 141.5 and Quincy High was fourth with 133.5 points. Photo above by Craig Harrington

BURNEY AT FALL RIVER
Three players scored in double-digits for the lady Bulldogs as Fall River downed the visiting Burney Raiders 59-40 Thursday night at the McArthur gymnasium for both teams opening SCL game.
Ashley Holscher scored 22 points followed by Lisa Senko with 16. Jessica Neugebauer grabbed 17 rebounds to go with her 14 points. The varsity girls next game is scheduled for Dec. 27-29 when they travel to Vacaville for the Vacaville Christian Tournament Photo above by Craig Harrington

LEHIGH CLASSIC DAY 2
It was a repeat of the 2006 championship game as the host Central Valley Falcons clashed with the Ponderosa Bruins at 6 p.m. Saturday for the Lehigh Classic title.
The Falcons defeated Shasta 65-48 while the Bruins held off a stubborn Liberty Christian team 36-31. The game will be the sixth straight year Ponderosa has played for the title. Photo above by Ron Harrington

FALL RIVER DEFEATS BEARS FOR SCL TITLE; FIRST SINCE 1980
Fall River will host Tulelake Feb. 19 in the first round of the Division V playoff schedule following the Bulldog girls 43-38 defeat of the Mt. Shasta Bears Friday night. Fall River is seeded third and Tulelake 14th for the playoffs. Game time is set to begin at 7 p.m.

BURNEY BOYS, GIRLS CLASH WITH ALUMNI
The Burney High School boys and girls varsity teams challenged alumni in two games Jan. 4 at the Raider gym.
For the alumni, Kevin Sutherland scored 22 points for the veteran victory, 68-44 and Tori deBraga scored 19 for the alumni girls win, 47-42. The Big Valley Cardinals, Portola Tigers and Fall River Bulldogs joined the Burney Raiders at the 28th annual Burney Jamboree played from Thursday to Saturday, Dec. 13-15.

LIBERTY CHRISTIAN DEFEATS F.R. FOR BLOCK F
The Liberty Christian Patriots defeated Fall River, 57-36, for the Block F championship Saturday night.
